Day 7..postponed

Sorry guys, things have been getting really busy with my freelance work(which is good :) ).

My schedule is a little off right now so I'm going to postpone Day 7 for tomorrow. So I'll be posting Day 7 and Day 8 together if I can :) I already have ideas for both which is good..cause it saves me time.

30 days of IF ONLY....DAY 6

So...technically it's day 7..but...just as I was finishing up Day 6..our apartment building lost power.
I actually panicked at first because I couldn't remember if I paid the electricity bill. Then I remember'd that I did and saw that the emergency lighting was on since the hallway lights went off outside our room.

It came on later in the early morning, so that's good :)

Day 6 features the redesign of what essentially would replace 'Zimmie' (who belonged to my exbff Zimmie).

Although were not friends anymore.. I really don't hold any transgressions or resentment towards her, so don't be hesitant on viewing her work as well if your curious.

Moving on, I don't know what I'd name the redesign, and I probably won't know until I actually get to revamping the story, because names may vary on how the culture is run, etc.

I do have an idea how I envision her because I vaguely know that I would like the culture to be inspired off of Korean culture.

I've always seen her as a very tomboyish character, and think due to her background growing up in a family biased against women she'd grow up quiet and withdrawn, but hold a lot of frustration and anger. Dragon clan  usually has a quick temper I imagine so this would come in as well.
I wasn't originally going to change her hair color from teal. At one point I decided aqua but after experimenting and thinking about the color design, I felt that blue was the best fit, not only to the color scheme(horns were supposed to have some red in there but I forgot, lol) but to her personality and role she might play in the story as well.

I feel it's also intriguing to have a character that is not only in touch with her feminine side but is naturally beautiful and trying to pull away from that, since she connects beauty to memories of her clan and how she was treated as a women.

I'm not sure what role she'd play in Cloe's life. Originally, in the very first version XD.
'Zimmie' was the daughter of Kafei and Anju(Majora's mask). Cloe had a run in with Zimmie when she traveled to 'Termekis'(Termina lol) and she helped her fight off the guards/slayers/whatever lol. After that the two stuck together ever since, Cloe always being the upbeat, hyper, and sometimes a little bit of the annoying one...

I'd definitely like this girl to be Cloe's closest friend. Friendship is the one theme I want to remain strong and important in this story beside romance and hardships they must face throughout their lives...

Day 6 where is it!?

Just got back from seeing "The Secret World of Arietty" with my friend Joe. I'm happy to say the english dub was pretty well done. There were a few character's voices I was hesitant on liking at first, but as the movie moved forward I grew to like them more. I would have preferred they left all the characters names the same as in the japanese adaption, and that they pronounced Arrietty's name properly as   (Ah-ree-ET-eeh) instead of as   (Air-ree-ET-eeh). English or japanese it would still be prounced the same. Either way the movie was still great. Backgrounds were gorgeous and the sound effects were extremely well done.

So..day 6 will be epic I swear, and I will work on it right now(lol)! You'll see a character you might not have expected to see if you're familiar with the story or have heard me mention it at all.

I want to make something very clear right now...I do not intend on working on this story for a long time, and there are various reasons for this.
Reasons being:
-I have many other priorities that need to be completed
-This story is currently not my focus
-All characters that were created by my friend Zimmie(excluding 'Pandamonium' since I originally created her. she'll get a makeover anyways so it doesn't matter either way) need to be redesigned. This is obvious because they're not my characters lol.
-Because of the previous content, multiple versions, alternate character personalities/traits, etc, it would take me a lot of time to sort/organize ideas, decide what I want to keep and what would change all together. The story would go under a complete revamp which would take a lot of time and research.
-This is the one story I want to look and feel amazing, so I'd like to wait till I gain more experience. I've said that with a lot of things in the past, but I'm very intent on this for this story.
-and my focus is currently not on lengthy stories at the moment.

If you'll have noticed from other sites, I haven't mentioned anything about UPTOWN lately. That being because it's on a sideburner..that is off. Once AnimeBoston is over my focus will be solely on 'Pixel Life'. It may seem like I'm jumping around again, which in a sense I am, but I've done a lot of thinking about why I chose Pixel life as my 'forerunner' and there are various reasons as to why I think it's a good choice and how it'll benefit me more.

So I apologize for any misunderstandings.
In the meantime I hope you'll enjoy the remaining days of IF ONLY's anniversary!

DAY 5 features..ZAUN!

Sound the trumpets! One of the 'generals' for the furry-demon-anthro phobic organization Slayers has arrived!

I've been pretty busy with my freelance work and commissions so today you only get a rough sketch full of fun doodles! It's Zaun after all so it's okaaaay! Somehow when I say his name I feel as though it's spelt wrong or something ><. Hope not.

Anyways! Story time!

Zaun was one of the first 'villian' characters in the story. He was a general of sorts for an organization that spreaded hate, bias, discrimination, and all those wonderful things against those that weren't human. Akujin and Zaun were the biggest rivals at that time.

Zaun also a lot of run in with Cloe, Zimmie, and Rina when they were in...Termekis. P.S When we were pulling away from having the story be focused in the 'Zelda universe' we did so by making small changes here and there. One of them was changing one of the major towns from Termina(from Majora's Mask) to Termekis, brilliant right? XD

So there's a lot of different people in this drawing, but believe it or not they're all Zaun..except for that sassy little guy showing off his tush in the lower left corner(I realized after drawing him for DAY 3 and applied some base colors later, he looked sorta gay..so I thought I'd just go with it for the hell of it here XD)
But to explain the craziness that is above.
Zaun originally started out..BALD. I DO NOT KNOW WHY, but when I first drew him..he was BALD. I think it was so the characters could make fun of him? Maybe his hair was burnt off by someone from the dragon clan? I honestly can't remember too well. Either way, it was pretty amusing and still is.
The little chibis are cute right? He's supposed to be an over testosterone driven guy so I thought drawing him as a chibi was amusing..(as well as flying through the sky nakid..)

The upper left drawing is a redesign of him when I was trying to come up with concepts for armor. I redrew from an old sketch I had and modified it a little. The drawing next to it is a redesign I did just now for fun.
I think for Zaun he's a lot better suited to the older worn down look. He's a warrior! He ain't go time to style his hair! Better to just pull it back in a ponytail ma-jigger! And face scruffies..psh..NO TIME TO SHAVE he's got some anthros to discriminate against!!(PS..I do not share the views of this character lol)

So yes..enjoy all the craziness that is above...

30 days of IF ONLY....DAY 4

Day 4 featuring...Xion/AKUJIN!

After doing Kalou I thought Akujin deserved to be up next, because he's right up there with the first batch of 'originals'!

Akujin was originally known as Xion a named picked up from Bloody Roar 3(Gamecube). Overtime he got renamed as the story got revamped repeatedly.  When I first, first redraw him to be older(back in the day), I drew him as Sol from Guilty Gear. In the beginning, before we realized we could just make up our own outfits we'd draw our characters like actual characters(like Sol for instance), just different hair color and sometimes different outfits, etc.

I'm not entirely sure when his existence came into being. He started off as the 'leader' of the 'dragon clan'(a position he claimed from the original leader of royal decent). He eventually became friends with the gang, eventually growing feelings towards Zimmie.

The drawing is of Akujin as an adult. If I can dig up some old drawings of him, maybe even the first one I might try to draw him when he was a teen. No promises though.

Akujin has always been my favorite male character from 'If Only' of the ones I created.

30 days of IF ONLY....DAY 3

Soooo, after various distractions ranging from Skullgirls new character Double being released which I did some clean-up work for, and a fun anime geek out session with my friend Lauren, I eventually finished poor poor Kalou.

So, fun story time!!

I think Kalou was the 2nd original character I created, and ohhh if only I had the first "original" drawing of this boy..seriously...There will be a video montage of all these "original old drawings" at the end of all this.

Anyways, Kalou was the best friend to Cloe, also part of the "dog clan" (woof?). He had a grey wolf, which...get this..originally was a wolfos when the story was still centered around Zelda XD. Eventually it changed to a wolf. His name was stalker..I'm sure you'll see him later...

Over time Kalou went from being a best friend to a love interest to Cloe. Originally though and still in the later versions(not that it matters anymore sadly) Kalou and Zimmie were the original pair, until more characters came into the mix and made everything crazy.

Like Cloe and a good portion of the other 'main' characters Kalou went through a lot of makeovers. His hair changed various times and I didn't settle on something until middle/end of college I believe.  He doesn't actually have a tattoo in any previous versions(that I can remember at least lol) but I thought it'd give that nice touch.

I didn't have time to color him, but I definitely will be at some point and will update when that happens :)

Although it's late enjoy a sexy man for today ;D

Day 3 coming up..I swear

..been a long day of work, so I'm taking a break and watching some Korean drama before I get started on this and commissions.

30 days of IF ONLY....DAY 2

DAY 2!

Looks kinda familiar right? Like a certain brave kid who rides around on a horse in search of shiny gold triangles to gain power to save a princess?

I dedicate day 2 to where it all began, which would be "The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time".

Some people may not know this but Cloe was created(in a very fangirl esque manner...) as a character in the Zelda universe. I know right..BUT WAIT! IT GETS BETTER. Not only was she this "original" character, she was also...drumroll please...THE DAUGHTER OF LINK AND ZELDA!

Somehow at the time, when I was near the end of 7th grade I believe, it was a brilliant, and I mean BRILLIANT idea that I came up with at 10-12pm at night. In that moment I felt GENIUS. Little did I know I was actually just doing what everyone else was who had a favorite videogame or anime was.

So what I did when I first came up with the idea is I drew Cloe in Link's clothing. I also drew her in Zeldas, and even a Deku scrub and a Zorro's. I don't remember drawing her as a goron though...hmmm..

One of the biggest things that I did when drawing Cloe a lot was I made her head too big XD. When it came to free handing I was pretty decent, since I spent days just tracing then free-handing drawings from those "how to draw animal" books and so forth, but when it came to making it up, I just didn't know how.

I always loved drawing but Cloe was what made me really love drawing, creating characters and story. The concept that I could make up whatever I wanted was amazing. Sure a lot of it was silly and didn't make sense in the beginning, but it didn't change the fact that I had found something I was truly passionate about.

DAY 1


I thought I'd start out where it began, with Cloe.

This is actually far from the original design, and now that I'm thinking on it I think I might try to dig up some old sketches(if they're not at home in Maine) to post them later.

Cloe went through a lot of makeovers, probably the most out of any of the characters. Her hair didn't change as much but her outfits almost changed on a daily/weekly basis.
When my friend and I began changing how their environments were it changed how some of the characters dressed. I started thinking more about what my characters would wear based on their personality and culture rather then what just looked cool.

Since my memory isn't the best this actually isn't the original last design I did of her, but something new drawn up from memory. The most recent design did have chaps though(because I have a secret love for them XD).

If you're wondering about the cat ears it's because she's born with them ;D Cloe is a royal heir of the 'cat clan'(corny name i know). They're a neutral island when it comes to politics and war, and would rather aid those in need then become frontline figthers in any wars. They specialize in speed, and stealthy combat much like an assasin. They dress for comfort and mobility so you won't see them wearing layers upon layers of clothing.

30 days of IF ONLY

So I had been planning this with myself as a sort of fun side project and as a memorable sort of thing.

The anniversary dates passed already(which I believe was February 8th but I can't be sure at the moment) of the day my first original character "Cloe" was created and along with it the story of 'IF ONLY' began.

So I wanted to dedicate the month that it all began to creating a drawing a day, whether it be of Cloe or other characters in the story.

Alots happened since 'IF ONLY' was started. The biggest and most unfortunate was losing my friend and partner Heather Loubier also known as 'Zimmie' who enjoyed spending endless hours planning out the story with me.  She was a big part of IF ONLY, at least to me and the story will never be the same without her, not just because characters that are hers will have to be omitted in a sense when I plan to work on it, but because of all the memories I have of us working on it together.

So even though this is a little late I plan on starting this today and posting a sketch a day from stuff from IF ONLY along with a little bit of info maybe.

So here we go!

Mako commission wip

Other then a couple minor issues I want to tinker with, Mako is coming along pretty good.
I didn't mention this on my tumblr Spoonfulofcats but I actually recycled the fire effect I made and used for this Korra print I made.
I wasn't liking how it looked though so I modified some brushes in photoshop to give it a more painted look. I also didn't like that the edges had this greyish look so I used hue/saturation option to blow out the color to one single color.

The rough rough sketch is pretty much finished...I'm trying to decide what orientation I want Mako to be in. Rotate to the leffft...or...riiight? Having a hard time deciding since there's no background for him to interact with. It's just a sketch bust after all...I still can't help but wanting it to be near perfect.

This was the very first sketch I ever did of Pixel if memory serves me correct. I used the smaller drawing(full body) as reference after that. It hasn't changed too much.

I think I'd like to make a timeline of how she's changed..although that'd require some scanning of drawings on my part lol

France Romance

Not sure what I think of this now. At the time I just wanted to sketch something that had a romantic-french mood to it. I even listened to classy soft french music while sketching.

I think I'd like to expand and play around with this style a little more though. Something about just using basic shapes and exaggerating certain aspects of the character that I enjoy.

Sketching at the bar

I don't get out much. Sometimes I want to go out to bars with my friends but most of them are tired from working so I don't bother asking, so sometimes I get the craving just to go so I can relax and draw while enjoying a nice fruity drink.

Even then I feel like I'd become that person who you stare at every 10 minutes "did someone seriously come to a bar to draw?!"
I also wouldn't appreciate any men coming by to flirt. If I'm drawing in a sketchbook it probably means I'm not in the mood to flirt, as fun as it is.

I think I haven't tried it yet because I'm afraid of that awkward situation, but sometimes I feel like doing it just to enjoy the awkward/funniness of it all.

You only live once after all.

Blessed Elven warrior

The first image is the rough character design I drew in photoshop. I left things very basic with a clear image of where certain details would be later on. For now it's sorta like blocking out the design of the outfit in a sense.

Below is a wip(in progress) of what I have so far.

I'm gonna start with the most current piece.
This is something I started 2 days ago(precisely! haha) of an elven warrior, and MY GAWD ARE HER BOOBS HUGE! Seriously. I have no idea how they got that big! One minute she was a sketch and BAM. It actually really does happen that way...for cartoon characters that is...
Just for the record, I actually enjoy drawing any female characters with small racks but every so often it's fun to make them utterly ridiculous. To be honest they weren't this big in the rough and I'm not happy that they ended up bigger from my original sketch.

But all silliness aside I brought the rough sketch into flash CS5(not that the version matters for something like this) and inked her with the pencil tool on the lowest size(which I forget what it is..)
It's very annoying inking at that size BUT, you can ensure that all your lines are closed, making the coloring process soooooo much easier and less painful.
There's nothing more frustrating then trying to fill an area to find out SOMEWHERE is a gap in your lines. The key is to always try to cross your lines or "intersect" them. This ensures they're closed and you can just delete the little 'nubs" afterwards.

The more I work in flash the more I get used to the vector look. I really enjoy it though it takes time with detailed character designs. In Adobe I wouldn't consider this detailed, but in flash...it's detailed, haha.

Introducing the ArtBlog Of Heather/Cloe Bloss

Greetings and welcome!

My names Heather Bloss but I like to go by the name Cloe.

Where did Cloe come from and why do I prefer going by it?

To go back all the way to the beginning of time...The name was derived from my first original character I ever created. Sounds really cheesy I know. You're probably all thinking "wow..she named herself after her character...Ooookay" But I promise you it's not like that really!!  Really!!

I used to just go by Heather, and honestly I don't have any resentment towards my name or anything like that.
I had two really close friends in high school. Emma and get this, Heather! So you it often got confusing for us as well as our friends when someone called our names, although I think we found it amusing just as much as they did but nonetheless, if my memory serves correct, my friend Emma came up with the idea of us going by our characters names.
I think to me it was a kinda silly and fun thing but after a while it just stuck.

A lot of people ask me "So what do you want me to call you?"  to which I'll usually reply "Whatever you're comfortable with." If you want to call me Cloe though that's great, but at this point in time, legally and officially my real name is Heather Bloss, haha.

So there you have it!

I've finally created an art blog! Wowza!
I'm trying to make it a goal to draw something for myself everyday. Anything
Could be a sketch, could be a finished piece, could be a cat farting, who knows!
It's so exciting right!?....RIGHT D:

For now I'll post the fun cute stuff! Honestly I really enjoy drawing in every genre. I think it's especially fun to go from drawing light-hearted cute stuff to dark macabre, etc. Sometimes going from one to the other can inspire you in combining two genres, and you'll come up with something very unique or interesting.
